How to Survive Living with the One You Love. Part 1. The Honeymoon's Over

If you are entirely new to living with someone and you are about to move in with them then brace yourself. It's going to be an experience for you. Because the bottom line is living with someone you love can be damn hard. And I know what you are thinking "I love them so it will be easy" Guess again. Sure, it might be easy for the first month or so. Everything will be wonderful, you will make each other dinner, have long, thought provoking talks and make love every single day. You will have no worries and no problems.

But at some point the cruel bitch that is reality will catch up with you and......

They WILL get on your nerves.

Whether it is because they just won't stop talking to you the second you get in from work or because they forget to empty the cat litter try on a regular basis. They will try your patience. They're not doing it deliberately, but they're doing it.

No matter who you live with or how much you love them, if you are under each others feet all the time then you are going to annoy one another.

Elaine on her husband Richard:

"I am not an untidy person, I always clean up after myself and I can't stand hav ing a messy house. But when it comes to tidiness and cleanliness, Richard is on another level. No matter how long I have spent clean ing , Richard will always find someth ing that I have missed no matter how tiny or insignificant it is. And if I have a glass of wine on the table then he will always tell me that I am go ing to knock it off the edge or spill it no matter how far away it is from the edge of the table. Sometimes I feel like tell ing him to just piss off and stop be ing so f*** ing anal about every tiny little th ing . But I know all that will do is start a row so I just grit my teeth and move my wine"

But possibly the biggest secret to living together is a secret that even some people that have been together for years do not know. And that secret is: IT IS OKAY IF THEY GET ON YOUR NERVES!

Yes, just because they are annoying you doesn't mean that you are a terrible, impatient person and that all of a sudden you hate your partner. It just means that you are a human being. And human beings get annoyed with each other.

Is relationship a little bit like (you'll forgive the expression) a game of three card monte? The winning card is never actually in the table at all. It's often more about approximations of what we hoped for.
