How to Survive Living with Your Significant Other

My fiancée likes to do a number of things, including, but not limited to, farting in his sleep, scratching his ass in public, and limiting my use of the bathroom. But I love him. Why? Because He loves me back. All of my live in piles of dirty clothes and pick my nails at the dinner table me. We know the other's dirty habits, and we indulge in the familiarity between us. But it wasn't always, or ever has been... or ever will be, easy.

Here's how we survive.

1. Bathroom humor never gets old. You can forget decency after the one year hurdle, and believe me, it is looong gone after you move in together. Not that I particularly appreciate his insistence that I "keep him company" while he... relieves himself, but I still giggle when I hear him let one go in the mornings.

2. Clean up after yourself. I think he nearly popped a blood vessel after the twentieth time I left my dirty clothes on the bathroom floor, but I've learned... kind of. Now, I dump them on our bedroom floor instead.

3. Learn how to cook (if you don't already know how). He really loves the fact that I'm making attempts to be domestic... especially seeing as how I didn't know that one clove of garlic didn't mean the whole thing...

4. Compromise about the tv. I am a food network junkie (don't ask how this meshes with my inability to cook), He likes bad reality television. We've settled on a LOT of Law and Order SVU.

5. Don't lose your sex drive. This is healthy. Dress up for him, let him strip for you. We like to laugh in bed a lot, but that doesn't mean we aren't hot for each other, just comfortable.

6. Learn how to do your make up/shave/blow dry/brush your teeth/etc, while the other person showers/uses the bathroom/etc. I'm really quite adept at curling my eyelashes in the two inch circle I rub out in the foggy mirror.

7. Don't hide, or throw away, his/her favorite shirt. It was really ugly, and it reminded me of wanna be rap stars.... Nevertheless, He still hasn't forgiven me.

8. Try exercising together. We were both really active people apart from each other, now we sit and eat (a lot of take out) and watch (a lot of) Law and Order. I think I've gained a new appreciation for his gut. The gym is a nice goal.

9. Never tell him/her that you have a newfound appreciation for his/her gut. Self explanatory.

10. There's a reason why you decided to date him/her in the first place. So when you're about to throw the pan at head because he forgot (another) anniversary, remember the good things and stick to soft things that won't permanently damage his skull.
