Step 1) Stay POSITIVE. The worst thing you can do is beat your self up about being unemployed or watch the news. It's ok that you are running behind on some of your bills. Yes, your credit will take a hit but once you get a job (or start making money again) your credit score will rebound. Stay upbeat.
Step 2) WORK AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. I don't really believe the figures that say the recession is starting to turn around and all will be ok this time next year. Work as hard and in as many jobs as possible. Diversify as much as you can including internet marketing, yard work, odd jobs, garage sales, etc.--anything you can to bring in money.
Step 3) GET A ROOMMATE. If you have an extra room or an office, downsize. Saving an extra $500 a month could be crucial 6 months from now so by all means do it. With the national unemployment rate in July of '09 at 9.7 % (and my homestate of TN at 10.8%) do whatever you can to save an extra couple bucks by all mean.
I hope this has been a helpful guide on how to survive the recession. Good luck to everyone who is doing their best to stay afloat. God bless!!!
