How to Survive Unemployment

Being unemployed will cause one to deal with numbers of situations that will require adjustments; to survive gracefully.

Indeed, unemployment could be very detrimental to one's whole being; it could challenge one's self-esteem, sometimes, even sanity. Because, the hardest battle is the battle within, and the toughest war could lead one to his/her most bitter loss, or the sweetest victory that could inspire us for the rest of our lives.

What the unemployed(s) should know, it's just a pace. It should really just be a pace; a stage in our lives that with the right attitude and perseverance, is never be impossible for one to overcome.

A good kick-off starts with acceptance. Realizing, acknowledging and understanding the entire picture that led you to the situation could give you a solid foundation in winning the battle.

Think things over. Not in the way that you would be blaming yourself and anyone else, but to able to identify the loop holes and the lapses. What are the "ifs" in the picture, because having those in mind could prevent future human errors and will definitely make you a better person.

Below are effective measures to survive unemployment:

  1. Seek help. The state and federal governments, some non-profit organizations offer assistance to the unemployed(s). It could be financial or monetary to help you get your feet back; or training classes (just in case you wanted to shift careers or professional field). These offices or agencies likewise offer free counseling and job placements. So, don't feel ashamed of getting out of your shell and letting the world knows that you are unemployed and you need help;
  2. Keep looking for jobs. Don't let your unemployment situation snatch all the hopes in you. Maximize your efforts and all your resources;
  3. Update your skills. At the same time your resume and make yourself marketable. By learning new skills, advancing your knowledge will give you a better edge;
  4. Make yourself busy. Volunteer to the community and work for a cause. This is very helpful, in such a way that it could boost your self-worth, regain your confidence and could broaden your network. By getting involved in the community you'd meet new faces; friends, expand your circle of friends that could help you land a job, likewise will impact your resume and character references substantially;
  5. Be active. Mentally and physically, if you are active, depression won't have a bit of a chance to get in your way and affect your productivity. Mentally we can do this by taking classes; browse on free classes either online, or in the community and hop in! Also, by being updated on current events, news and happenings around you. While physically you can do it by getting into sports and exercising daily;
  6. Stay positive. Flash all your negativity to the toilet and be happy! There's always light at the end of the tunnel and it's very true.
  7. Pray and meditate. It's very healthy to do both of these once a day; to recharge yourself and loosen up stress, so that good vibes could come in.
There are inevitable things in life that happen beyond our will. And those things no matter how we deep think, we couldn't come up with solutions simply because, only God has the answers. So, have faith in entrusting those kind of things to Him. If you know you've done your best and still the situation doesn't improve, you just have to let it go and allow God to take over.

Unemployment should really just be pace, so, don't let it eat you and rot all the self-respect and confidence in you. Because, if you won't step up and would sour-grape forever, it won't just shatter all your dreams, hamper your future, but it could also harm your health and make you doom.
