About Ozark
Ozark, Alabama is a small town roughly 26 miles north of the city of Dothan, and 85 miles south of Montgomery, Alabama. With a population of some 14,000 residents, Ozark is not particularly large and with its relative distance from any large (100,000+) metropolitan areas, the town is at a relatively low risk of becoming a hotspot of zombie activity. That said, one must always prepare for the apocalypse.
Located on Highway 231, Ozark is likely to experience waves of refugees fleeing from Alabama's larger metropolitan areas in the north. These refugees will inevitably bring with them the zombie virus.
Where to Make A Stand
If at all possible, reaching the nearby Fort Rucker Army Base would be the ideal place to go, where army personnel can use their advanced training and weaponry to hold off the horde until reinforcements can arrive. Should the base be overrun or otherwise compromised, however, residents are advised to have a back-up plan.
The local courthouse is a sturdy, multilevel building in the center of downtown. It provides a commanding view of the local area, and the courthouse's proximity to the police department, a gun shop, two drug stores, and several restaurants makes it an ideal location for defensive purposes. Survivors should be sure to prepare the building by blocking off the ground-level entrances and by setting up quick-escape wire slides to the roofs of other nearby buildings.
The church complex across the street from the courthouse may serve as a useful back-up stronghold, but survivors are advised to keep in mind that during a zombie attack, frightened residents (some of them infected) will flock to religious centers to seek spiritual or emotional support, where the virus may spread.
Also in the downtown area is a small grocery store that can serve as a supply depot. Ozark does have a Wal-mart, but survivors are advised to be exceedingly careful, as it is located on the main road.
Where To Find Weaponry
There is a gun shop located not far from the courthouse, and the local police department is just up the road. Firearms can be acquired from either location. It is also worth noting that as a rural town, many of the residents own firearms - a fact amplified by the fact that many military personnel live in the area.
Where To Go If You Need To Escape
Due to the proximity of military personnel and the relative distance from metropolitan areas, Ozark is likely to remain a safe location for some time. However, in the event the town suffers a catastrophe and is overrun, survivors are advised to head east into more rural locations. Most other directions lead towards larger towns, where zombie density is likely to be higher.
Good luck.
