Here is a list of things you can do to make wearing a synthetic wig and hair extensions look more realistic.
Choose the right wig. The first thing you'll want to do to get a realistic synthetic wig is to choose the right wig for you. There are synthetic wigs and hair extensions that have a variety of plastic fibers. The best in plastic fiber synthetic hair are kanekalon, modoacrylic and toyokalon.
Choose a good brand of wigs for a more realistic look. Most of the time the better the brand of wig, the better the wig's appearance. Also, be mindful of the color of the wig. Select a synthetic wig or hair extensions that is a hair color that complements your skin color. Start off with a wig that matches your natural hair color and choose similar shades. Also, consider a wig with bangs. Wigs with bangs look more realistic than wigs that don't have bangs. This is because bangs cover the hairline.
Get rid of the wig shine. After you purchase the perfect wig, you may feel as though the wig is too shiny for you. There's a solution for a shiny wig. You can de-shine the wig or hair extensions. If a wig is too shiny it can look fake so this is an important step. You can de-shine a wig or hair extensions by putting a little baby powder on it and work it through the wig or hair extensions. Only put a little bit of baby powder on the wig or hair extensions otherwise it will look gray. Another way you get rid of a shiny wig is to wash it in fabric softener and water. The fabric softener will safely get rid of wig shine. Gently wash the wig in a tub of water.
Thin out the wig hair. A thick wig with too much hair is a obvious sign that the hair is fake. If you feel comfortable enough, take a razor or pair of sharp scissors and thin out the wig cutting some of the hair throughout. You can also have your hair stylist thin the wig out for you for a more natural, realistic look.
Wear a wig cap. For only a dollar or two, you can purchase a wig cap to wear under your wig. This will give your wig a good fit and a more realistic appearance on your head. Use bobby pins to secure the wig to the cap. This will ensure that the wig won't cause any odd bumps and lumps on the top of your head.
