Whether a linen closet or a clothes closet, it can be hard to keep any type of closet tidy without the proper organizational methods. The first step to tackle organizing a messy closet is to do a little shopping. Storage bins and racks can work wonders in keeping a closet organized all the time. With these products, the closet will never again need a deep cleaning.
Clothes Closet
Shoe Racks
Shoe racks come in many different forms. There are canvas racks that hang over the door, and there are wire racks that sit on the floor. There is even the option of having floor-to-ceiling shoe racks built into the closet, for people with lots of shoes.
Sweater Boxes
When hung on hangers, sweaters can stretch out of shape. Keep them folded neatly in sweater boxes that hang from a rod. This keeps them at eye level for quick viewing.
Garment Bags
For those rarely-worn gowns and suits, consider investing in a couple garment bags. They will help protect clothing from dust, wrinkles and from being caught and torn, while giving the closet a more organized feel.
Linen Closet
Storage Baskets
If the linen closet is in a bathroom, items other than linens can start to pile up in it. Medicine, hair products, makeup: Small plastic or wicker baskets work great for storing these miscellaneous items. Separate everything into bins, labeling each one for easy access to the items within.
Canvas Boxes
Available at retail stores everywhere, collapsible canvas storage boxes are perfect for storing linens and towels. Most even come with a place to insert a label, so you can mark each box with its contents for easy viewing and access.
Coat Closets
Stackable Organization
There are so many types of closet organization available, and built-in shelves or stackable cubbies are some of the most convenient types of storage for a clothing or coat closet. They can be used for organizing shoes, mittens, scarves and so on, while leaving room for coats to hang.
Shoe Racks
For the day-to-day shoes that one might slip on to grab the mail, there should be room to store them in the coat closet. A shoe rack that sits on the floor is convenient, especially for those who live in a wet climate, and often come inside with muddy shoes.
Storage Baskets
Hats, mittens and scarves need a place to hide, and plastic or wicker storage baskets do the job quite nicely. Line them along the top shelf during the summer months, when they are not needed, and set (or stack) the baskets on the floor in the winter.
