You Want to Hand Wash Pieces of Value

Most china pieces are safe to clean in the dishwasher. However, metal-trimmed, vintage or antique china better be washed by hand. Why? Because you want to hand wash pieces of value to prevent scratching and chipping. However, when you wash them, remove rings or other jewelry and wash them separate from other cookware.

The standard caring for china is to wash all china as soon as possible after each meal as acidic foods, such as tomatoes and citrus fruits, or other foods that made from sulfur like mayonnaise and eggs can ruin the shiny varnish and color of china if not rinsed.

Rinse coffee and teacups right away, as well, to prevent staining.

New pieces can be machine washable but after frequent machine washings, they may also start to show signs of wear. In this case, avoid coarse pads cleaners by using a soft brush and gentle dishwashing liquid. You want to store with care to avoid chips in the glaze after the wash.

1. Wash all the pieces in warm soapy water.

2. Rinse well.

3. Let the pieces to dry for few hours, and then arrange them on work surface.

4. You need to decide first in what order you will join the pieces. For example, the pieces near the center should be first.

5. Use a fast drying water resistant epoxy. Scrub the edges with acetone. Acetone will guarantee that all pieces are clean from oil and dirt.

6. Lay a thin even drop of epoxy along one edge.

7. Connect two pieces and adjust them to fit.

8. Take away excess epoxy by clean it with acetone soaked cotton.

9. Put tape across the joint to hold the joint pieces in place until the glue has dried. If the design is delicate and easily broken, apply tape as well in the back of the joint.
