How to Take Good Pictures of Your Pets

Roger C.
Taking good pictures could be a real challenge, especially when you try to photograph your pets. If you know something about photography already your experience will be of great help, but if not, you will need some patience to learn. Pets are also hard subjects to photograph because they are always moving and are hard to make them stand still to get their picture taken. You need to wait for the correct position and time to take a good picture, and this requires some effort.

There are however, several tactics you can use to make your experience more enjoyable. Pets can be controlled, but you need the right attitude. If your pet is properly trained, then you will have no problems because you would be able to control its behavior. You can tell it to sit still or stand and then you will only need to deal with the angle and the environment. On the other hand, if your pet is not trained, taking a good photo can be a frustrating experience, but you can still do things to improve your pet's behavior.

If you have toys or food, you can bribe your dog or cat to behave, but you will need to be pending to take advantage of the best timing to take the picture. Your dog will be moving, so catching him in good pose needs perseverance; if you have the option, use the automatic shutter to take successive photos. If you take more pictures, your chances of nailing the perfect pose will increase.

Some pets are easier to photograph than others. Reptiles for instance, are for the most pat slow and they stay still for long periods of time. This can work to your advantage because you can take them to any environment you want and they will still be calm. Animals like these include snakes, iguanas, and turtles. Mammals are different because they are active most of the time. This is when training comes in handy. Birds could be easy or hard to photograph depending on its behavior. Some parrots are very calm and you can take beautiful pictures of them, but other birds can be very active making the job harder for you.

Knowing your pet's habits gives you an additional advantage when you want to take photos. If you observe them carefully for some time, you will start noticing patterns and behaviors that you can use to your advantage when taking pictures and prepare yourself for the next move. Also place your pet in a calm place with good illumination. The flash of your camera can scare your pet and taking a second photograph would be hard to do. Noise can also cause anxiety, and this will be noticeable in the photograph, so reduce the anxiety at a minimum by having a controlled environment.
