As you are taking your great travel photos, the rule of thirds can be easy understood if imagine that you are dividing your photo in thirds horizontally and vertically in thirds and put your focus of the photo on either one third across or one third up on down the photo or where the lines connect. You want to make sure your main focus of the photo is outside of the center square. It can be to the top, bottom, left, or right. This will take your focus off onto the entire photo and not just the center.
