How to Take Photos of a Car for Online Auctions

Taking a good picture of anything can help you sell it better. But if you are selling a vehicle on an auction place or on craigslist you really want your picture to stand out. The better the photographs the better chance you stand to sell the vehicle quickly. Poor photos can prevent your vehicle from selling quickly.

With selling the vehicle online you don't need to upload 100 photos but you do need to make the photos that you are showing great photos. People want to see the vehicle clearly and be able to see the dents and interior of the vehicle and help them make a decision. Before taking photos of your vehicle wash and vacuum it out so it looks great in the pictures.

The exterior of the vehicle:

Take a photo from the front of the vehicle, making sure that you get the entire vehicle in the photo. Pay attention to the things in the background of your photo. You don't want a pile of trash or other distractions showing in the vehicle's photo. After you take a photo of the front of the vehicle take a photo of each side of the vehicle, getting as close to the vehicle as you can while still getting the whole vehicle in the photo. Do the same with the back. You also can take a photo from the front of the vehicle looking down the side. If there are any dents or scratches on the vehicle that you have described in your ad take a close up of those to show the potential customers how bad the scratch or dent is.

The best time to take a photo of the vehicle is when it is not in direct sunlight. Taking the photo in direct sunlight will give it a glare that will take away from the photo. If the sun is hidden behind clouds this would work also.

Engine:

Open the hood and take a several photos of the engine. People just want to see that the engine is clean and looks like the hoses and belts are in good condition.

Interior:

Open the doors and take the photos of the seats, and the dash. If you have a computerized dash, turn on the key so that you can see the dash light up. If there are any cracks in the seat or tears, take a photo of that to show the damage.

After you have taken your photos of the vehicle you can then crop them just so it shows the vehicle and cut out allot of the background. This will keep the buyers looking just at your vehicle and not at the background. You want as little distractions as possible in the photos.

Taking good quality photos and showing several online will help your vehicle sell better and faster. The more clear and crisp the photo of the vehicle is the better it will do selling.
