In Barra you can find any bus you need to get away from Carnival outside Shopping Barra. Anticipate organized chaos with several waiting areas. Each bus stop is equipped with a large sign clearly stating which bus stops there.

If someone in your group is Bahiano or speaks Portuguese, stand back and let them negotiate the fare. Do not feel obligated to take the first taxi, prices may vary considerably from driver to driver. Traffic is thick on the street; a metered taxi will be more expensive. Ask the staff at your hotel how much you should expect to pay before you head out.
