When trying to teach a bird to talk, it is best to use flash cards with pictures and words on them. It's even best to say what the picture is five times out load clearly as you are showing the bird the picture on the flash card. If the bird says the word give him or her their favorite treat such as a peanut, dried fruit, or a cracker, but basically anything the bird enjoys eating a lot because it will show the bird he or she is doing well at speaking and will encourage the bird to speak or try to speak more and more.
Another awesome way to try and get your bird to talk is to play a song over and over again near him or her for long periods of time, or just play a radio station with different kinds of music and people talking to each other. Sometimes birds like different tones and different voices and can pick up different words, phrases, and sounds when listening to them a certain thing and over again. Doing it that way will take time, but after awhile you will soon begin hearing your bird speak or even singing to a song on the radio that he or she heard and liked a lot.
Some other great methods to use are using objects from around the room that your bird enjoys looking at a lot and saying way the object is over and over again to the bird until he or she eventually says what the object is, and again if you bird gets the object right when speaking treat him or her. You could also use their favorite foods like I mentioned above, and say the name of their favorite food while holding it in your hand in front of them over and over again until they speak it, which the bird will usually do because he or she will get frustrated and want to communicate with you in order to get their favorite treat.
When trying to train your bird its important to be repetitive in what ever method you decide to use because you want the bird to learn the words and to speak them clearly constantly and if you change methods to fast the bird won't learn anything at all. Remember always give your bird treats when he or she speaks or learns a new word because it will encourage them to keep learning new words and talking to you.
