Lower Case Letters are Awesome
When you start trying to teach your child to ready start off with lower case letters first. This can seem a little bit contradicting do to the fact that most books that are made to teach your child to read start off in teaching your child in capital letters. Capital letters can be taught last because they are only in 4 percent of all letters in written English. Because of this make sure you pay attention to lower case letters first. Lower care letters are way more important to your child's development with reading skills.
Associate Sounds with Letters
The sounds of letters are sometimes different from the word itself. When you are reading to your child the sound is vital. Make sure that your child can associate the sound with the letter. When you read to your child, point to the letter so that that your child can understand what sounds go with what word. Don't be to hard on your child if he or she cant pronounce the sound correctly. If your child is trying and has the same sound for the letter, give them a break. It is hard for most children to try and produce a sound.
Small Vocabulary First
Introduce your child to a limited amount of words first so that they can get some vocabulary down. It could be frustrating when they are introduced to a lot of words at once. Reading is a complex process, and many words that are learned have to be learned by practice, sight and verbal communication. There are 500 key words (Dolch Words) that a child needs to know to be able to read at a good basic level.
