How to Teach Your Child to Remember the 50 United States

Why I Have This Stuck in My Head I Have No Idea

Michael Grisso
Since this is driving me absolutely bonkers I was hoping if I wrote about it, well I would be able to get it off my mind and move on writing other pieces that actually are somewhat interesting. I know my 4th grade music teacher will feel so proud we'll be able to call her Mr. Holland Opus when I'm finished. Okay that might be stretching it, but when I was about 8 or 9 we were taught how to memorize all 50 states in alphabetical order by singing this song, go figure it was called "The States Song". I wish I had DSL so I could make a video and make a fool out of myself because it would be more fun, but I am strapped down to typing it out and la la la ing along the way.

Although this may sound silly over the years it has served its purpose and I do remember singing it in my head in high school for a few tests. Great job Mrs. Davis! Maybe you'll get a hold of this article someday and know your teaching made a difference. Hopefully they still do it in the schools, but I know my son hasn't learned it there yet so I am trying to teach him now. Now its your turn to pass it on to someone else, I am simply going to write out each state in order and cut it off at each pause if that makes any sense. If not, too bad, I am basically doing this to get it out of my head anyways.

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut.............
Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana.........
IoWAY, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan....
Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, NeBRASKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, NevAda.
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota
o-H-I-o
Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, TexAS,
Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, WyOOOOOOOOOOming.

I yi yi, what did I just do! Oh and if you were wondering why it was even stuck in my head in the first place I just saw the word Alaska and POOF! There it was. Okay, time to go write a real article.
