How to Teach Children on White Boards

White Boards for Teaching Children

The are so many things that children need to be taught. Young children are learning all sorts of things all at the same time. First they learn to say words, then they learn to identify them, then later to write them. Next children need to learn numbers, all aspects of them from counting to identifying. As children get older they also need to learn to write and to spell, to add and to subtract. All of these things can be taught with the help of a white board.

A white board is much like a chalk board. The only differences are that it is white and not black, and that markers are used instead of chalk. White board markers are often called dry erase markers. An eraser is used and the marker wipes off of the board just as chalk would off of a chalk board. A dry cloth can also be used. White board markers come in a variety of different colors which makes learning fun. When you draw an apple you can actually make it red and add the green leaves.

If you don't have a white board for your child and don't have the money to buy one don't worry! White board markers can be easily wiped off of the front or side of the refrigerator. Little ones always have the little alphabet magnets on the fridge too which makes it even more fun. Any non porous, hard surface will work. Don't use the cheap dry erase markers on your fridge! Get the higher quality ones or else they will stain. (Lesson learned the hard way.) Stains can be easily removed with a scrubber sponge and either comet or soft scrub.

Shapes can be taught to children using a white board easily. Simply draw the shape and ask you child "What is this?" The child looks at it and then you tell them what it is. You can write the shape name below the shape too. This will help your child to visually see the shape name they are trying to say while seeing the actual shape too.

Letters can be written on a white board and then pointed to and said to teach letter names and identification. If you make the sound for the letter too then you are also teaching letter sounds. When writing is being learned a white board can help. You write the word once and then ask your child to trace it a few times. Then you ask them to try to write the word themselves. Children pick it up quickly when worked with.

Numbers can be taught by writing the number and then drawing an amount of stars the same as the number. Say you write the number three. Draw three stars below or next to it. Any shape can be used. Even scribbles will do as long as there's as many of them as the number. What you do next is to count the shapes, and say the number. This helps teach number identification, counting, saying number names, and shapes.

A white board can be used like a tool to help you teach your child. White board markers wipe off with an eraser of dry cloth. If you don't have a white board you can use the side of your refrigerator. Never use the stove though. Letter, words, numbers, and even shapes can be taught using a white board. They are so handy for teaching that you'll find one in almost every classroom. White boards help children to learn. Thanks for reading and take care!
