Parents do everything they can to make their children happy and teach them important lessons for life. One thing most of the parents forget to do is to teach their kids financial responsibility. Teaching them the value of money will help make them more responsible and accountable. This also instills in them the habit of saving money. Since children start getting allowance from a very young age they should also learn to manage their allowance and live within their means. It is one of the most important jobs of every parent to teach their children financial management.

The first thing in teaching your children financial responsibility is being a role model. For children their parents are their role model. They tend to do what their parents do. If you are disciplined in your expenditure it will make your children also financially responsible and they will also learn to be disciplined.

Give your children some allowance to manage. To learn money management they should have some money to manage. Parents should help their children in managing their money. They should be made to split their money into three parts. The first part should be kept as saving and the children will learn to save money. The second part should be kept for their personal spending as per their will. The third part should always be saved for any expensive thing that they may want to buy like a video game.

Sometimes it is good to make them learn to earn their allowance. This will make them know the importance of earning money. Parents can make a list of chores and the money they will earn if they do those chores and once they complete the job they should be given that amount at the end of the week.

Children should be encouraged to set long and short term goals. Like if they want to buy an expensive toy, they should be encouraged to save a certain amount of their allowance to buy it and set a goal to do so.

Teach your children the joy of giving. They should be encouraged to give a part of their allowance to the underprivileged so that they will understand not all people are so privileged to get new toys and gadgets. They will also know the value of the money that they have and many may not have. Birthdays and holidays can be used as an occasion to present gifts to the underprivileged. By this they will also learn that charity is an important part of life.

All these methods will make your child more organized financially and also help them manage money matters effectively. It will also make your life more peaceful and joyous.
