How to Teach Kids to Play Baseball

Baseball is quite a popular game and kids are very interested in learning it. There are few things which you must keep in mind while you are teaching kids to play baseball.

To start with, you should ask the kids to catch the ball without using their mitts. This will help in developing good eye-hand coordination. To encourage the kids, ask them to imagine as someone is running with them and they need to beat this imaginary runner to order to reach the base first. They also need to run with all they have to the finishing line.

A proper batting stance is a must. Only then they can bat properly. The bat swinging should also be fine; neither too much nor too less. Children often get confused once the ball has been hit. They don't know what should they do next and where should they throw the ball. They will learn this through practice and with the use of certain drills. You can make the kids play kickball or play using a rubber ball. All this will help them in understanding the game.

Throwing is a very important aspect of baseball. To practice this, the kids can use a bucket and toss the ball in it. To keep the kids on their toes, you need to be a little strict. Give them some sort of punishment if they don't throw properly in spite of repeated practice sessions. For instance, you can make some of them run the bases. This will encourage them to do well for they will not like the idea of getting the punishment again.

The kids can decide on the name of their team. They can keep any name which they think is cool. Do not impose your thoughts on them. The most important thing is that you should genuinely have fun while teaching the kids. Enjoy with the kids and only then they'll enjoy learning baseball.

Rules for baseball teams:

1. The first rule is to follow all the League rules. There are no ifs and buts about it. They have to be followed by everyone.

2. Every kid will get an opportunity to play the game. They can play a maximum of 3 innings. Kids, who work hard, are extremely regular will obviously be preferred.

3. If due to any problem, your child cannot go for the practice or the game, you must inform the coach beforehand. All parents should be familiar with the game schedules. If any problem, crops up at the last moment, the coach or the other senior officials must be informed.

4. Kids do not need to wear the uniforms when they are practicing. Uniforms are meant only for the games. They can wear anything that they are comfortable in, except shorts. The yearly deposit for the uniforms is $25. No one is allowed to play the game if they are not in their uniforms. The kids can keep the socks and hat given with the uniform.

5. During the games, players cannot move out of the dugout. If they wish to do that, they must take the permission of the coach. Players who shag fly balls can also remain outside the dugout.

6. Other than players, no one else can go in the dugout. The parents of the players are also not allowed.

7. The dugout should be maintained properly. It should be clean from all sorts of trash. The audience is requested to keep the ground clean.

8. Players are not supposed to take the bats in their hands unless they are batting. No swinging of bat is allowed close to the people. Players cannot throw away bats behind any other player in case the catch is missed.

9. The players have to follow a walking rule. 3 walks are allowed in a row and 4 in an inning. Pitcher can be replaced.

10. Use of abusive language is strictly prohibited. A proper level of respect should be maintained towards teammates, coaches, players of the opposition and others.
