How Can Teachers Help a Child Build Self Esteem?

Lets
Teachers play a great role in helping children improve in many aspects of life. One of these is his social aspect. There are kids in the class who have very low self esteem. There are many factors why some children have low self esteem. It is important that teachers know the background of every child in his class for him to have an idea of how to meet their every need. Teachers could do a lot of things to help improve the child's personality specially in building his self esteem.

Teachers can help build the self esteem of a child by:

Reminding everybody not to laugh when somebody made mistakes/ No one is perfect!!

Teachers should remind everybody all the time to respect the right of others by not laughing at them when they made mistakes. Most kids who have low self esteem are shy and nervous. They are conscious in everything they do thinking that others might laugh at them when they made mistakes. They refused to participate specially if they see that others are better than they are. The teacher can help build their confidence by giving them assurance that they are accepted and respected when they made mistakes. Nobody will laugh or ridicule them because no body is perfect, everyone is bound to make mistake and to make mistake is normal. The teacher should serve as role model in giving respect to everyone in the class then the kids will follow.

Giving Appreciation for his efforts

When a child is appreciated for trying hard to achieve something, this would boost his confidence to achieve more. He will be encouraged to do his best or do the best he could. Appreciation can help a lot to improve ones personality and it is an effective way to help others overcome their weaknesses. People who have low self esteem usually lack appreciation. Most of them are ignored and ridiculed by others, the reason why they have no confidence on themselves. If they will be appreciated for their efforts it will be a great help to build their self esteem.

Knowing his interest, talents and abilities then help him shine through it

Teachers could help a lot to develop the talents and abilities of the kids. There are many who are talented but no guts to show their talents because they have very low self esteem. No confidence of themselves. . Teachers can do something to let the child improve in this area and help him shine trough it by giving him assistance to gain exposure. If the child is good in singing, help him to improve it by giving him part during programs and encourage him to join singing contest. If he is good in drawing, the teacher could help him by displaying his art work in public for everybody to see and recognize his talents and abilities. Teachers have lots of opportunities to help the child improve his self esteem because they are the persons in authority to train children and their opinions are respected by many. They also have lots of time with the kids than the parents do during the school year. It is one of their noble deeds to develop the talents and abilities of children under their care.

Getting him involve and socialize with others

A good teacher should initiate activities that would let the kids socialize with one another. He should let the shy go with children who have strong self confidence. Letting them work together would help improve his being shy. If the child who has low self esteem is involve in all activities and he is always with children who have strong confidence of themselves, this would help him to overcome. his shyness. Getting him involve in activities and let him socialize with other kids would help him build self esteem.

Encouraging others to give their moral support to him

Encourage other children to give their moral support to the one who is shy and has no confidence of himself. I had a student before who never stood up and participate even if we have group activities he would never try to join. One time, he has no choice because I give numbers to all of them and when their numbers are called, they have to do what is asked for them to . When his turn came, all his classmates cheered for him, they encouraged him to do his best and assured him that it will be alright, he could make it. The shy child was encouraged by the moral support of his classmates and he made it. That was the starting point of his improvements. Moral support is a great help in building ones self esteem.

Whatever are the factors of the kids' low self esteem, the teachers and classmates could help him overcome it. Teacher plays a great role because he can influence the kids to help one another.
