Plan ahead. Lots of the work you will do can be completed before you start your vacation. Plan ahead for tasks like grading papers, making lesson plans and gathering materials. You will find that you will have to spend some extra time working before your vacation to get these tasks accomplished, but you will also find that it is very much worth it. You will also find that you are less stressed out about coming back to work because you will have your plans and materials together.
Have designated times for work. If you are going to work during your time off have a set time when you will work. Maybe a particular day during your vacation will be spent doing school work. Or you could set aside a certain time of the day that you will work. Set a limit for yourself. When you reach that limit stop working. You should not spend every day of your vacation working and make sure if you are working it is meaningful.
Have some set aside relax time. Vacation is about rest. Have designated time for just that. You need to have certain days during your time off that you do absolutely no work. Have something special to do. Maybe you could spend a day at the spa. Enjoy an afternoon sitting on the couch reading. Whatever helps you relax you need to find some time to do just that. Do this several times if you can.
Learn to say no. It's a small word but it has so much power. When you don't want to do something learn to say no. Tell others no to outings and gatherings when you need some time for yourself. Also learn to tell yourself no. Statements like, No, I'm not going to work today will go a long way towards helping you to enjoy your vacation time.
Spend time with family and friends. Teachers are often quite busy. They work long hours and often on their days off. So as a result they don't always have the time to spend with family and with friends. Use this vacation time to do just that.
Your Christmas vacation is going to go by quickly. You look forward to it for so long, but when it gets here it flies by. Make sure you do what you need to, so that you enjoy it!
