The First Way: If you are giving them an allowance without requiring work, you are doing them a disservice. You should now make them do extra chores in order to get paid. It is time for them to learn they must earn what they get in life.
The Second Way: Are your teens of the legal working age? If so, you should encourage them to work a part time or summer job. You have to tell them this will help them build character and valuable job experience while putting money in their pockets.
The Third Way: You must show them the importance of saving for their future. You can help your case by saying, "Every time you get paid, you should put at least ten percent of that into your savings account. By being shrewd with what you earn, you will have a nice stash to help you pay for attending college or buying a house once you graduate from high school."
The Fourth Way: It is important to tell them not to idolize and fall in love with money. They must learn this can lead them to engage in wrongdoing and become greedy.
The Fifth Way: You must get them to take advantage of coupons. After you explain their value, you should have them cut out a few.
The Sixth Way: You would be remiss to not get them into bargain shopping. One way you can do this is to tell them to look around for the best prices while making sure to get quality. Another is to encourage them to buy some items in bulk when they can see it would cost them less money to do that than to buy the items individually.
The Seventh Way: If you are a school administrator, you should have all of them take at least one course in finance. This should be mandatory.
The Eighth Way: If you are a teacher, you should try an experiment as a class assignment. For example, you might give them a little bit of money and have them write a paper on how they used it and what they learned.
