How Do I Get Text into the Chat Box of an Instant Message

Maxwell Payne

There are various types of messenger chat services available for computers. Examples include AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ, and Facebook Chat.

There are also some equivalents on mobile devices such as mobile applications that emulate the previously mentioned programs in addition to some exclusively for mobile devices such as SMS texting and Blackberry Messenger. The general concept for all chat messengers remains the same and the use of them is relatively standardized.

Double click on the contact in your contact's list that you want to chat with. A new chat window appears.

Position the mouse pointer cursor over the text box below the main chat window in the new instant message. Click once within the text box.

Begin typing your message in the text box using the computer's keyboard. When you are satisfied with the message press the "Enter" key or click "Send." The message will appear in the chat window along with your contact's reply.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for each additional chat message you want to send to your contact such as a reply to their last message.

This concept also applies to many mobile messaging applications such as Blackberry Messenger, SMS text messages, and mobile instant messenger versions of computer messaging services found on phones and other mobile devices.
