How to Make a Thanksgiving Turkey Bread Basket

If you are looking for a great craft idea for this Thanksgiving, you might want to try a Thanksgiving turkey bread basket. A Thanksgiving turkey bread basket is very easy to make, requires little time and can be a great addition to your Thanksgiving dinner table this year.

You will need some materials to create your Thanksgiving turkey bread basket, all items very easy to find and cheap to buy if you are on a budget this year. You should pick up a large wooden spoon, glue or a glue stick, pair of eyes, pencils and scissors, construction paper in a variety of colors, a wooden craft spoon, and a red marker. You are also going to need colorful wrapping paper, waxed paper, cloth napkin, wooden skewers, bread basket, and either Florists' foam or Styrofoam blocks big enough for the inside of your bread basket.

To start off creating your Thanksgiving turkey bread basket, you are going to need to make the head of the turkey. To make the head of your turkey you need to get your large wooden spoon and spin it so that the back of it becomes a face for your turkey. Grab your eyes and glue them in place on the wooden spoon and then use yellow or orange construction paper to cut a nose out and begin to glue that onto the spoon also. For the wattle of the turkey you need to color the small wooden craft spoon red and angle it so it touches the nose but comes off the large wooden spoon. You should glue these in place using a glue stick or if you have some super glue that would work also. Take the construction paper and cut out some feathers using a variety of colors and make sure that the feathers are about 8 or 9 inches long. Use the wrapping paper to cut out the same number of feathers that you cut out of the construction paper and make the feathers from the wrapping paper a little shorter than the ones out of the construction paper.

The waxed paper is important because you want to put some waxed paper down on the table so that you do not get glue everywhere when it comes time to glue the feathers down, so set up the waxed paper on a flat surface where you can glue. Take your construction paper feather and set it on the waxed paper, then take a wooden skewer and put it on top of the feather so that the pointed end of the skewer is about 2 inches below the bottom of the feather. Use a glue stick to glaze the underside of the wrapping paper feather and place it on top of the skewer so you have a construction paper feather on one side and the wrapping paper feather on the other side of the skewer. Continue this process until you have run out of the construction paper and wrapping paper feathers. Take your foam block and put it into the basket, making sure it fits snugly into the bread basket. The wooden spoon handle should be pushed down into the foam deep enough that it will stay in place. Once you have your turkey head in the foam you can go to the opposite end of the bread basket and glue your feathers into place. The cloth napkin is to cover the foam block so that you can now put your bread in your basket, and it will look amazing. This is a fun craft that anyone can do and you can even get children involved to keep them out of trouble while everyone is cooking Thanksgiving dinner. The craft supplies can be bought mostly at a grocery store or craft supply store for a couple dollars a piece, so this Thanksgiving turkey bread basket idea is both fun and cheap.
