Thermal Underwear
Wearing a layer of clothing close to your skin, is extra insurance against ice cold winds. Children do well with cotton thermal tops and bottoms. Older teens and adults may prefer to wear the newer materials. While shopping look for silk fabric blends. Some fabrics may repel moisture. Materials that are silk blends are very thin. These thermals can be worn under the thinnest of casual or professional dress clothes.
Women
Thin silk blend thermal underwear can be purchased in camisole style, short, or long sleeved tops. Choose black or brown thermal bottoms to wear with skirts to work. Choose boots and thick cold weather socks to expand your wardrobe. In the event your dress is mid length and your legs are seen, the sheen from the fabrics will be seen. It will appear that you are wearing thick hose or textured tights. You can wear dresses comfortably during the winter with the proper undergarments.
Socks
Socks made out of plain cotton will become wet in the snow. Cotton alone can not keep your feet warm. Look for socks that are made to resist moisture. Invest in high quality socks made for extremely cold temperatures. If you can not find socks at your local department store, check a sporting goods store. The hunting department usually has cold weather socks.
Children
Have a designated area for your children and family members to drop off their wet hats, gloves, and scarves. Create a mud area, even if you do not a large space available in your home. Make it a part of your daily routine to wash and dry all items that may be needed for the next day of school or work. Always have a set of extra hats, gloves, thermal underwear and scarves available where your children or spouse can reach them.
During the short days during the winter, protect yourself and your family from feeling the true temperatures outside. Always check to make sure that your children have on the proper thermal undergarments and socks. Make extra dry pairs of thermal underwear and socks available in a car, or travel bag for any adults who work outside the home. Use these tips to keep warm this winter.
