How to Get Things Done

Ruwan G.
You know, when you think about it, we could actually get a ton of things done if we really wanted to. But obviously many of us are chronically hindered by that menace known as Procrastination. But what can we do when it decides to strike? Well, there are a few things, but make sure you do them now and don't put it off until tomorrow, ok?

And these tips might be overkill if your just Procrastinating on some trivial little thing, but for those goals you really want to accomplish, it should help get you on your way.

So lets get right into it.

1. Whatever your goal is, always remember why you want it. People tend to lose sight of this way too often, and remembering the benefits of achieving your goal can help you get back on track.

2. Stop thinking about it so much, and just DO it. When we think about things too long, we tend to over-analyze and make things harder than they seem.

3. Much of Procrastination comes from our fear of failure; we are afraid that we won't make it to the end or that we will mess something up. The truth is, nothing will happen if people don't take risks once in awhile. Even if you do end up not succeeding, at the very least you gave it your best effort, and that's admirable. Confident people don't procrastinate very often.

4. Split it up. If you have a big project or paper to finish, don't bite off more than you can chew. Take it a step at a time, and slowly but surely, everything will magically get finished.

5. Reminders. Because we don't want to deal with that "I forgot" excuse. Write down your goal on some paper and paste it somewhere that you can't avoid. On your wall, in the bathroom; anyplace that you will see often. Keeping your goal in "sight" will help keep it in mind.

Those were just a few tips that can help you put Procrastination in it's place. But all the tips in the world can't help you if you aren't willing to try and beat Procrastination with a rolled-up newspaper once in awhile. It's about not being afraid to try things, even if you think you will fail. And the truth is, once you start something, it is much easier to continue. However, it is up to you to press the big red button. Get things done, and don't let fear and worry get in the way of what you want.
