How to Make Three Labor Day Beverages

Bubba
The Labor Day celebration maybe dependant on which beverage you decided to serve. If you wish to go beyond the typical Columbian Coffee and iced Chateau de Spigot the options are as far as your imagination will go. Don't let the media Labor Day hype make your decisions, be an independent thinker. Someone put on a fresh pot of Columbian Coffee for me. We are all gonna roll up our sleeves, wash our hands, and become Labor Day beverage makers.

Seaside Mary

Ingredients:

48oz can vegetable juice (V-8)

½ Cup Lemon juice (Green Bottle)

½ Cup Worcestershire sauce

½ cup Louisiana Hot Sauce (Tabasco)

1 cup Clam Juice

1+ Tablespoon Garlic Powder

Black Pepper to taste

Directions:

Por all ingredients into a large pitcher, stir well, chill well (overnight is best), serve in a salt rimmed glass over shaved ice, garnish with a string of olives and a wedge of lime.

Note:

I make this weekly and have an 8oz glass most mornings for breakfast.

Sunshine Mary

Ingredients

1 frozen Orange Juice concentrate

1 frozen pink grapefruit juice concentrate

1 frozen lemonade concentrate

1 frozen pineapple juice concentrate

2 liter Red Soda Pop (Your Favorite)

7 pounds crushed ice ( small bag)

Directions:

Thaw frozen juices and dump into a large bucket or drink cooler, add ice and Red Soda Pop. Stir well and serve in a glass rimmed with sugar. Garnish with a cherry and an orange.

Note:

This will be a bit strong but as the ice melts it will be fine. I make this up first thing in the morning for an afternoon picnic.

Arnold Palmer

Ingredients

1 gal iced tea

1 gal Crystal light lemonade (generic)

Directions:

I make my tea in the sun. I use 3 family size orange pekoe tea bags and 3 regular sized green tea bags top one galon of water. Allow to sit in the bright Ohio sunshine most of the day. I make the Crystal Light lemonade to package directions. Mix these half lemonade and half tea serve in a tall ice filled glass, garnish with a mint leaf.

Note:

Arnold Palmer (the golfer) made this drink popular among the USGA folks. To me it is more refreshing than many cold drinks...

Chateau de Spigot

Those of you who haven't caught the pun. Fill the glass with crushed ice and go to the spigot above your sink and fill the glass. You now have a glass of iced Chateau de Spigot....unless you are North of the Mason-Dixon... then you have Chateau de Faucet' Mizpah ;-}}>
