How to Get Through the Holidays Without Gaining Weight

Anne Therese McCorkell
1. Don't bake holiday sweets unless they're low-fat, low-sugar

2. Keep your fresh produce stocked up

3. Always keep sugar-free, fat-free Jello and Pudding On Hand

4. Never go shopping hungry, always eat something healthy first

5. Plan your weekly menu according to your supermarket sale flyer

6. The next time you want to eat when you're not hungry, grab your lover/spouse and hug and kiss them!

7. Keep a list of things to do when you're bored other than eat:

Inspirational reading

Bubble bath

Walk

Listen to relaxing music

Call a friend or family member on the phone

8. If all else fails, choose something healthy first, like a serving of fruit or veggies

9. Keep individual servings of meals and snacks on hand so that you don't open a big bag of chips and find it too easy to overeat!

10. Push yourself away from the table and do a hobby, if you don't have one, now's the time to start one, whether it's crocheting an afghan for your grandchild or writing that story that you never find time to write!

11. Enjoy the holidays! If you find you overeat at one meal, don't give up and keep overeating all day! Most likely overeating at one meal won't result in weight gain for the whole week!
