Get involved Fast
The quicker you get involved in activities, the sooner you are going to make friends. Don't worry about knowing anyone your first day at college. If your in a dorm room, you probably have already met your roommate. Good or bad, you may be desperate for new friends. Get involved with a local church, sports, fraternity, drama, or anything that can help you meet other people.
Buy Used Books
Every college student knows to save money where ever they can. If you can buy used books, do. It will save you a fortune and you will be able to resell your books once you finish the class. Many times professors have their own requirements that often prohibit you from buying used books. Just make sure to check and see what the requirements are before you purchase the books. Some days you just don't want to get out of the dorm. Since money is tight, you might not have enough money to order out. So... do what college kids do and have a microwave in the dorm room to heat up food. Macaroni and Cheese is a favorite!
Go to College Sporting Events
The joy of being in college has something to do with sporting events, I know. If you aren't into sports you might not agree but sports creates the atmosphere for college. There is nothing like rooting for your team when the game is tied, with seconds to go. You will never be more proud to go to that college than in those final moments. Of course, it does help if you win!
Get to Know your Neighbors
College life can be lonesome if you don't have friends. Take the time in the first weeks in the dorm to really get to know those around you. You might find you have some awesome people around you that become your closest friends. Don't worry about being shy. Knowing your neighbors can be helpful because you might not like everyone you meet. You can learn who to stay away from and you are your greatest friends.
Don't Skip Classes
Classes really does matter. We all know this and at one point, everyone has skipped a class. On those times where you do skip class, make sure to get the notes. As a rule, try to not skip classes if at all possible.
Schedule Classes Together
You will want to schedule classes together because if they are all together, you can get all your classes out of the way. If you have classes two hours apart, it can be difficult to make all your classes. Save yourself the hassle and schedule them all together.
Call Home Once a Week
Every mom wants to know her child is doing all right. Save your mom the endless worry by calling home once a week. Don't worry. If you can't call, send an email or letter. There are so many easy ways for us to stay connected now, it's as easy as 1-2-3.
