How to Get Through Your Workout and Keep Going
There Are Many Causes for Not Being Physically Fit. If I Am Correct it All Starts in Our Mind
Hopefully, this information will allow you to create, not only a consistent, but a successful workout program. I think the biggest obstacle has become "mental motivation." In order for you to be able to get past this maddening obstacle you'll need to develop a strong enough passion for movement to overcome this motivational obstacle that others are falling prey to.
The first thing I suggest you do involves asking yourself a series of goal oriented questions. Here are a few suggestions.
What is it that I would like to accomplish by exercising?
Do I want to lose body fat?
Am I looking to gain muscle?
Do I want to look and feel better about myself?
Much like the rest of our lives, if you don't enjoy it, you won't do it. On to my second suggestion; Learning to find some sort of satisfaction in your workout. The progress you're making should be all the satisfaction you are in need of to continue on with your workouts.
Once you get used to doing your workout, change it up a bit. Okay, here's what I mean include a few more challenging factors into your program. Adding to your program will also keep it from going stale. Remember to reward yourself as you achieve each new goal set forth.
Moving right along, the fourth possible mental unmotivated, if you will. I hear a lot of complaining about not having enough energy to start your workout much less finish it. Here's my lack of energy suggestion. If your workout usually takes about an hour, allow enough time in your schedule for two hours. The first hour go some where fun or do something you find enjoyable. This way once it's time for your workout, it won't feel as though someone had to drag you there.
The next tip is really based upon your personality type. What I mean is, I think it's a great idea for you to hire a professional trainer if only for a day or two out of the week. This will help keep you on track both mentally and physically.
Now that you've got a routine or groove going, invite a few friends to join along. The more the merrier, I always say. It will take your mind off the clock, before you know it your workout has ended.
This next suggestion is for those of who have a little more time to spare than others. Find a sport you like, and join the team. Before you've realize it you have gained stamina and strength.
By now you have been exercising for some time and may have seen some results. That's Great! Give yourself a pat on the back, but by no means is it time to quite. It make in fact take several months to make your workout feel as though it is a part of you life.
Commitment Time! Promise yourself when you start a new program you'll stick with it at least three months before giving up. By then you'll like what you see and how you feel and won't want to give up.
Previously I mentioned rewarding yourself after achieving a new goal. Well, this particular reward system is more for each session completed. Treat yourself to a nice massage.
Listen Up! This part is particularly important. Don't down yourself. When you get an impulse to quit try to remember why you started in the first place. You had some sort of emotion or feeling; try to remember that and stick with it.
If you do happen to skip a session, no worries it won't kill you, but definitely reschedule for the next day. One skipped session is easier to make up than five.
Working is a life long habit, well so is exercising. Think of it this way, if you got a job today, it wouldn't pay off all your loans today. If you started exercising today, it wouldn't take away all those years of couch eating potato chip days (even as much as we would like it too). All I am saying is exercising is a life changing habit, not an instant cure.
I'm finally down to my last few suggestions I can offer. Sometimes progress can be a little slower than we'd like. This doesn't mean to double up on your workouts, all this will do it lead to overtraining syndrome.
Junk the junk food! No, that does not mean empty all the contents of your fridge (although for some of you it wouldn't hurt). All I am saying is an adult you should be able to use your common sense to know when and how much of what you should or shouldn't be eating.
Last but not least, and I think it's the most important. You should feel self confident about for your efforts, progress, and all of your accomplishments.
