Grown Up Birthday Celebrations

Are you dying for a dose of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll? Lookin' to get your groove on? Rock the mike? Slam the man? Get down on it? Then slide into your birthday boogie pants, throw up some lyrics and belt out a ballad with an adult karaoke birthday party. Here's what you'll need to throw yourself one hot as hell karaoke party.

You aren't getting any younger you know and the music is only going to get louder.

Coming Up with a Guest List

It is important to invite friends who are not shy and are willing to participate. If possible it is best to invite a variety of people with a variety of personalities and taste in music. If your circle of friends and family is small then just invite everyone you know and hope that enough of them participate to compensate for those too don't.

One you have your guest list create invitations. Purchase from Michael's Craft Store or Wal-Mart a package of 3" X 4" sheets of black cardstock, one glow in the dark neon gel pen and one roll of hemp or twine. Buy one box of clear adhesive self laminate sheets and a one hole punch from Staples or other office store.

Write out your party invitations on the cardstock with the gel pen. Doodle randomly along the edges of the paper. Laminate both sides of all the invitations and punch a hole in the top. Loop a length of twine through the hole and tie ends together to make a necklace. Stuff the birthday party invitations in envelopes and mail them to guests.

Music is More Than Everything

The energy of your karaoke party will be a direct reflection of your music selection. If every song on your karaoke playlist is a sappy love song people are going to get bored real fast. Ideally it would be best to satisfy all of your guests musical tastes and the best way to achieve that is to have music from a wide variety of genres.

The only exception is if you are having a theme karaoke party such as a rock party or reggae party. One way to have a successful themed karaoke party and still have lots of happy guests is to use an era as a theme, like the '70's. This way everyone gets to party.

Feeding the Crowd

When it comes to karaoke night you want people to be able to mingle freely and munch at the same time. A sit down dinner interrupts the flow of the party. Opt for finger foods like mini hamburgers, meat, cheese and crackers, taquitos, pretzels, popcorn, trail mix and M&Ms.

For alcohol organize a buffet style bar. Set up a folding card table and load it with plastic cups, buckets of ice, napkins and liquor. Place ice chests of beer on either end of the table.

Set the Mood

The hottest karaoke party has an atmosphere that feels like club. Replace lightbulbs with colored lights and black lights. Drape strands of patio lights throughout the room. Patio lights in the shape of peppers or pagodas are the most fun. Another really cool thing to add to your atmosphere is a disco ball. Disco balls can be rented fairly cheap by party stores.

When you decorate your room for the party designate one area of the room as the stage area. Lay down a large piece of burlap, canvas or bamboo to define the stage area. To create a spotlight tie several flashlights together and hang from the ceiling. Cover the handles of the flashlights with scarves or material to disguise them. Scroll to the end of this article for a link to some really cool instructions for building your own stage at very low cost.

In a small area near the stage set up a dressing room by using a room screen or hang a sheet from the ceiling. In the dressing room provide wigs, hats, scarves, feather boas and other props for the singers to use during their performance.

Push furniture in groupings towards the outer edges of the room to give it a lounge feeling. Place small bowls of snacks on various tables throughout the room.

In keeping with a club or lounge feel, remove wall decorations. Gather several music magazines and clip out pages with images of bands and event announcements. Hang clippings on the wall in frames or in in a group with edges overlapping each other.

More Than Just Singing

It doesn't take much more than that to host a karaoke birthday party but there are still lots more things you can do to make the night a success.

Hold contests through the night. Ask your guests to arrive dressed as a celebrity and give a prize to the guest with the best costume. Have a round of karaoke that involves rating the singers, the best singer wins.

Give your guests lighters, wads of paper balls, panties, bras or guitar picks to throw at the singer on stage.

Lastly remember that even though you are the host, it is still your karaoke birthday party. Get in there, let your your hair down and have a fantastic time.

Sounds like fun, but I can't carry a tune in a bucket. I'd be the sober one on the sidelines laughing at everybody else.

I guess my friends would be too serious for this I just can't see them enjoying this kind of party but I know people who would love it just not close enough to me for me to put one one. :) I shall pass along if you don't mind.
