How to Throw an Awesome Holiday Party

Jeanne Marie Kerns
Are you one of those people who just want to have the talk of the town party for this holiday season? Well keep reading, these ideas are sure to make you the talk of the town.

Having a successful party is not as difficult as it may seem. If you plan the party right, have the right food, music and maybe some activities, then your sure not to go wrong.

Let's begin with the party itself. You have to keep in mind that most people work, so having a party on a week night is not a good idea, instead plan your party for a Friday or Saturday night just in case your guests need to sleep in the next day. Once you pick the day that your going to have the party, be sure to give the people you are inviting enough time to decide to come. Giving your guests a week in advance is not enough, instead go for a month in advance. Be sure to request that all those who are attending RSVP immediately so that you have a good idea who will be showing up.

Next setting your house up for the big day. Most people will have their holiday party right inside of their house. If you have decided to do this, then take a few suggestions. Move all breakable glass into a room where guests will not be aloud. Push back couches and chairs to give more room for standing. The more people stand, the less mess there is on your furniture. Be sure that any bathrooms that are accessible to guests have soap and enough toilet paper in them.

This is where most people go wrong with their parties, the food. Try and remember that people enjoy finger food, no matter who they are, or how prestige they might think they are, they all enjoy finger foods. Your best bet it to go with foods you know. Do not go over the top. Simple is so much easier and so much more tastier in the long run. Here are some great ideas for food at your party.

1. Pizza Bagels - Buy large plain bagels, open them up, place them on a baking sheet with sauce, cheese, and any other topping you prefer and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until crispy. Take out and cut into fours.

2. Finger Sandwiches - This is by far one of the most simple recipes. Take a few loaves of white and wheat bread. Cut the crusts off all the bread. Make sandwiches of tuna, egg salad, ham, turkey, cheese, or whatever you like on your own sandwiches. Be sure you add mayonaise or mustard to each sandwich to keep it from becoming dry. Cut into little triangles or squares and serve on a platter.

3.Chips and veggie trays. This is a definite. Be sure you buy more than enough to last too.

4. Dips for your chips and veggies. Three of the best dips that will sure to make people talking are : Salmon, cream cheese and sour cream all mixed well together. Your favorite salsa and sour cream mixed well together. And last but not least my favorite, powdered ranch dressing mix, sour cream and three small cans of tiny shrimp all mixed together well. These are sure to be a hit.

5. Last but not least, chicken wings and drumettes with your choice of sauce. Secret to making these great is frying them without any breading or seasoning. Season afterwards, then drench in sauce of choice. (hot, teriyaki, sweet).

That will do it for the food. Keep it simple, stick to what you know, not what everyone else knows, and the food will be a hit.

Next we have the drink menu. When inviting your friends and family to a holiday party, request that each guest bring their own bottle to contribute. Keep all liquor, beer and mixers in the kitchen. Give access to your guests so they can make their own drinks. Be sure and buy several different types of soda for those who do not drink. And make ice easy access buy buying bagged ice and putting it in a cooler. Also, never use glass to serve drinks in. Always go for the plastic alternative. Easy isn't it?

Last but not least we have the music and the decorations. Do not go over board on the decorations. If your having a Christmas party, add a few Christmas decorations here and there, remember that less is more. Finally we get to the music. Nobody wants to go to a party where the only music playing is the favorite of the party holder. Be sure to have a variety of different music for all your guests to enjoy. You can even throw in a little Christmas music if all goes as planned.

The key to having a great party is just having a great party. Have fun with it, do not go overboard, and keep it simple.
