How to Throw a B-Grade Movie Party

A Good Scare and a Great Laugh

There just isn't a better time for a B-grade movie party than the middle of summer! Good friends, good food and some really awful movies are just the thing for a great late-night party. If you have never seen a B-grade movie you could be in for a real treat. You might also find yourself laughing so hard you can't stand up. So lets get ready and plan that party!

You need to invite the guest. Create invitations with fake movie tickets to the best of the worst. Put their names in lights on a tiny marquee. Announce the date and time with grand style and ask them to wear their greatest outfits for B-grade movie queens and kings from times past to the now generation of late night viewing. Try to get the names of your guest that will be attending so you know the number you need to plan for.

Plan for food that only the bad movie crowd could love. Start with popcorn and sodas, then follow with pizza, more soda or for an adult crowd a few good beers. Lots of movie munchies will fill out the menu with ice cream bon bon's, candies of all kinds, cookies and ice cream in every flavor. You can really make it special with hot dogs and chips for early arrivals. Set everything up in the kitchen, but have paper plates, napkins, paper bowls and plastic serving ware so you can just dump it all in the trash at the end of the evening.

When your guest arrive make introductions to everyone so there are no strangers. Start a game with each person telling of their favorite B-grade movie from the past. Ask about their costumes and if any of them have ever been to a drive in. Once they are comfortable with each other you can serve the snacks like popcorn and hot dogs.

Choose a cheesy, fun movie for the first viewing such as Killer Clowns From Outer Space. This is a great one with chills and thrills and great B-grade movie scream queens. There is enough to make everyone laugh, jump at the scary (sort of) stuff and cheer for the bad guys. This is all in fun so don't take anything seriously.

Next a great movie for the second viewing is a comedy of B-grade movie spoofs and a little more current with the times. Psycho Beach Party. This movie has actors and actresses everyone will recognize from former movies and shows they have watched through the years and will bring back childhood memories. It keeps the guest laughing the whole time as the watch the next predictable situation.

After the first two movies it is time to take a break and do a little B-grade movie memories as you and your guest tell stories of strange events that have happened to someone they have known, heard about or was a friend of a friend. You get the idea. What is the scariest thing that has happened to one of them at the drive in or parked on a dark road? Were they the good guy or the bad guy? Is the mystery still unsolved? You will be surprised what you learn about someone's wilder days.

The last movie of the night has to be a classic. Choose from a list of the following or find your own.

Reefer Madness! From the days of old when the evil marijuana was supposed to drag you down and drive you insane until you killed someone you love. It could happen to you or you or YOU!

The Blob. Get the old version in black and white. It's great and there are lots of scary scenes with a great, slow moving blob no one can seem to out run. Very funny effects and great acting. Ha, Ha.....

April Fool. This is the teen movie of gentle T and A trapped on an island together with murder and mayhem to the very end. Then you learn the real surprise! Or is it the end?

I Was A Teenage Werewolf! Older than film almost, but good to the last frame. It is supposed to scare you out of your socks, but at most you might chock on a hot dog when you laugh.

Now you have the making of a great B-grade movie party for summer fun. If you can move the TV screen to your back yard and watch them outside so much the better. It will give you that drive in movie feel and you never know if someone is watching you!
