How to Throw a Creative Dora the Explorer Party for a Three Year Old

KJ Ames
Nickelodeon's beloved character is adored by the preschool set - so why not throw a Dora-themed birthday party? While there are plenty of pre-made Dora the Explorer (and Diego) party supplies, I supplemented the out-of the bag Dora the Explorer goods with some out-of-the box games and Dora-themed activities.
Here are a few ideas so that you, too, can throw a great Dora the Explorer birthday party!

Dora the Explorer Party Game Idea #1: Cross the Bridge!
I made a simple balance beam-like "bridge" out of a 2x4 and some cement blocks, then cut a blue tablecloth into a "pond" and placed this under the bridge. Kids took turns putting on a purple Dora back pack and crossing the bridge and got a Dora or Diego tattoo when finished.

Dora the Explorer Party Game Idea #2: Dora Scavenger Hunt!
I bought a bunch of plastic binoculars from The Oriental Trading company and gave each partygoer a pair as well as a map of our house and yard. I also wrote some rhyming clues to help guide them in the right direction. The kids went off "searching" for stashes of small coins, rings and jewels.

Dora the Explorer Party Game Idea #3: Make a telescope!
The Oriental Trading Company sells cardboard telescopes for art projects. I set out a table with these telescopes, markers, Dora stickers, glue and confetti for the kids to decorate. While these telescopes aren't super sturdy, this art activity game some much needed quiet time for the 3 and 4 year olds and was a real hit!
