Here are a few tips on how to throw a fun divorce party.
Step 1: Choose the best time to have the party. It's best to wait until the papers are signed, and the divorce is officially over. Since divorce parties are easy to organize, you could host the big bash the next weekend.
Step 2: Put together a guest list. For a fun and lively night, invite persons who have gone through a divorce. The party is a celebration of your brand new freedom, and an "opposite-sex bash" will likely take place. With this in mind, you might stick with a same-sex party.
Step 3: Play upbeat break-up songs. Remember, divorce parties are supposed to be fun. Depressed love songs are not permitted. Select fierce, empowering records that convey your contentment and strength.
Step 4: Rent movies such as the First Wives Club or Waiting to Exhale. Pig out on junk food the entire night and watch these passionate characters in action.
Step 5: Consume lots and lots of alcohol. Plan a divorce party sleepover and you won't have to worry about designated drivers. Tell all your friends to bring their sleeping bags, pillows, and their best bottle of liquor. Host the overnight party at your house or reserve a hotel suite.
Step 6: Have a "burn session." Bring the marriage license, photographs and love letters. Light up the fire place or sit around an outdoor pit. First shred the papers into a million pieces, and then toss them into the fire. Don't want to ruin a photograph? Simply cut his or her face out of the picture and burn the head.
Step 7: Are you ready to start meeting new people? Go to a bar or club and enjoy yourself. Enjoy a few drinks and spend the rest of the night dancing.
In many instances, the divorce party is more memorable than the wedding. Tape over the wedding video and document the divorce party. This way, you can relive that night forever.
