The first thing you should do is consider the supplies you will need for a successful karaoke party. You may choose to rent a karaoke machine or purchase you own; the latter is recommended if you plan on having similar gatherings in the future. Also, purchase a wide variety of karaoke CD's that have songs from different genres. An alternative to buying the CD's is to download karaoke songs and burn your own disks.
The food and drinks that you plan to serve your party goers should also be on your shopping list. For karaoke parties, finger foods are usually your best best. No one is going to come to your shindig expecting a full meal, so having light snacking material is perfect. Think along the lines of snack mix, crackers, cheese, and cookies. You do not want anything too messy, as the microphones will be passed around throughout the night. Stay away from things like Cheetos for this reason.
For beverage selection, it depends what type of party you wish to have. You can offer punch or soft drinks, and maybe throw in some alcohol if you desire. You can have a small bar set up for the party, or just throw some beer thrown in a cooler of ice for guests to help themselves. Adding a little alcohol to your party will likely increase the amount of singers as the night wears on!
When selecting the location of your party, think of how many people who are going to be inviting. Make sure if you enough room for at least 3/4 of your guest list to show up. A garage or outbuilding is perfect for this kind of party, especially if there are going be lots of people. Having the party outside your home eliminates the risk of it being destroyed during the festivities. You can also have the party outdoors, as long as you have a good karaoke system and will not disturb anyone living nearby.
