How to Throw a Hawaiian Luau Themed Birthday Party

Tara Cellars
Birthdays are special for any child no matter what age they are. When a child is having a birthday you will want to throw them great birthday party. There are many themes that you can use, but one of my favorites that is very popular is the Hawaiian luau birthday party. This is a very fun theme. There are many activities, decorations, and foods that go with this theme.

First of all you will need to either buy or make some invitations for the party. You can purchase invitations for this theme at most Dollar Trees. They have invitations that are very inexpensive. If you would like to make your own invitations you can easily do this by using card stock. Make each invitation the size you want it out of the cardstock. You can then either decorate them yourself, or even let your child help. One great way to decorate them is to glue flowers from a broken lei onto the invitation. This will give it a nice festive look. You can then write the Date, Place, Time, and an RSVP number on the card. This is a great way to get your child involved in their party.

Then, you will need to either purchase or make decorations for the party. You can purchase a lot of decorations at the Dollar Tree also. Just look in your local stores and see what they have. You can use leis to decorate the tables. You will also need to buy some for the guests to wear. You can also purchase grass skirts for them to wear. You can even find coconut cups at Oriental Trading's website too. If you would like to see what they have, please click here.

You will also need to have at least one themed activity for the guests to do. An easy craft that kids can do is one where they make their own Palm Tree Leaves. All they will need is green tissue paper, a pen, and scissors. You will need to have the tissue paper cut into a 10 inch by 19 inch rectangle. You will then need to help them fold the paper in half widthwise. They can then draw half circles and other shapes along the folded edge. They will then cut these out. Then along the curved edges they will cut out some slits. When you unfold the tissue paper, you will see that it looks like a palm tree. This is only one easy activity that you can do. You can also play pin the apple to the pigs mouth, which fits the luau theme. It's played just like pin the tail on the donkey, only with a pig and apple instead.

Next you will need a cake that fits the luau theme. You can make a plain white cake in any shape you want. You can then decorate it with a lei or you can even disassemble a lei and decorate the cake with it. It will be colorful, but also look stylish. You can also make a nice punch with pieces of pineapple in it. An easy recipe is to pour a bottle of ginger ale, a can of pineapple juice, a bottle of lemon-lime soda, a small tub of any flavor of sherbet that you like, a small can of crushed or cut up pineapple, and some maraschino cherries. The fruit gives this punch and amazing taste. You can also provide fresh fruit as a snack or garnish for the party. With all of these ideas you will be able to plan a Hawaiian luau birthday party easily. This is a fun themed party idea that you can efficiently create for your child.
