How to Throw a James Bond Party

S. Gustafson

My friends and I enjoy throwing themed parties from time to time. It is a good way to take a break from the monotony of everyday life. Our best themed parties have been modeled after movie series, such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Carribean. For these parties, we throw a movie marathon and enjoy snacks and drinks related to the films.

So far, the most successful themed party was based on the James Bond movies. My friends and I watched awesome James Bond movies and drank martinis all night long. Keep reading if you want to know the secrets to throwing a great James Bond party.

Choosing James Bond Movies

There are a ton of James Bond movies and it is almost impossible to watch them all at once. Choose a couple favorites for your James Bond party. You can choose based on your favorite actor (mine is Sean Connery) or just start at the beginning and watch them in order. Feel free to get input from the attendees.

Next, you'll need to procure copies of the chosen James Bond movies. If you're lucky, one of your friends will already own some of the DVDs. If you're not so lucky, you'll have to check them out from a library or rent them from a video store. Some TV channels will have late night movie marathons, but it could take a long time to wait for one to air.

Drinks

You can't have a James Bond party without martinis! If you're a movie maven, you already know how Bond likes his martinis: "Shaken, never stirred." Just pour three ounces of gin, an ounce of vodka and a half ounce of Kina Lillet wine into a cocktail shaker. After shaking thoroughly, flavor the drink with a fresh lemon.

Snacks

The James Bond party I attended had cashews, pecans and chocolate candies served in martini glasses. If you want something a little more filling, you can always choose dishes from the movie settings represented in your marathon. For example, if you're watching Casino Royale, you'll want Mediterranean food such as bruschetta or paella.

Activities

Although my James Bond party was essentially a movie marathon with food and alcohol, you can add other games and activities as you see fit. Set your place up with poker chips and cards for some exciting Bond-style gambling. Additionally, there are plenty of James Bond video games you can play with a group. Or play the collector's edition of James Bond Monopoly. Don't be afraid to think outside the box!
