Location: The first thing you will want to figure out is where you are going to have your book launch. This is a very important part of the planning process. Do you want to have it in a place where it will be open to the public; do you want to have an invitation only book launch? Do you want fancy, fancy or casual? These are all things to consider when choosing a location.

Some great suggestions for locations for having a book launch party are

1. Your local library: Depending on where you are, libraries will allow you to book launch for no cost.

2. Community centers: Many community centers are very affordable for renting out.

3. Clubs: Yacht clubs, Ranch clubs, ect… these places you have to rent out and are a bit more on the pricey side, but will play into the fancier side of a book launch party.

4. Hotel conference rooms: Hotel conference rooms are another suggestion for renting space when looking for a location. Yes, again, pricey.

5. Books stores: If you find the right book store, they will host your book signing for no cost as well.

As you can see, it sort of depends on what you are looking for and what your budget is.

Theme: Decide if you want a theme for your book launch party. For example, some may have vampire theme for a paranormal novel, some may have a fantasy theme for a fantasy novel, and some might just go with the colors from the book cover for a theme.

A theme is not necessary, but adds to the overall picture of your book launch party.

Refreshments: Refreshments are usually a must, but they don't have to be super fancy. Crackers and cheese, vegetable plates, and big bowls of chips will do for most any occasion.

But…the cake! Yes, you must have a cake and it must have the book cover on it. Places like Safeway and Wal-Mart have a machine that can put the cover of your book right onto the cake. Awesome, right!

Books: Bring books to for people to purchase and don't forget to sign them! If you can't afford many, bring around ten and then have an order sheet there. People can buy one and right there and you can deliver it to them when it comes in.

Invitations: After you have selected your invitations for your book launch party make sure to send them about a month in advance and ask for an RSVP so that you can be prepared for a specific amount of people.

If you would like your even to be open to the public, go ahead and send the invitations, but ask that they bring their friends. You can also put up flyers everywhere and some papers (usually in small towns) will make an announcement. This is awesome publicity for your book. Even if they don't come to the book launch, they will know about your book.

Prizes: Make some swag for your book for people to win in a drawing. Items like bookmarks, pens, coffee mugs, and tee-shirts. This can get costly, but most of the stuff you can get at Vista Print for pretty cheap.

Balloons: lot's of balloons!

Posters, banners, and signs: It is always a good idea to have posters, banners, and signs at your book launch party and the surrounding area. Not only is does this look professional; it is also a great way to promote yourself.

Book Trailer: If you have a book trailer, hook your computer up to a big screen, turn down all the lights and play the trailer. It will be a hit!
