First decide how many people you want to invite. If you have a summer birthday in your family, this is a great way to celebrate! Do you have a backyard pool for the kids to enjoy? If not, what about other activities? We have a pool but in the past have purchased a cheap volleyball net set with a variety of backyard items in the kit for around 20.00.
Once you know how many guests you are having decide what your menu will be. If you don't want to spend a lot of time preparing food, Sam's club offers a huge bucket of potato salad for 5.00. You can also buy two big bags of chips for around 5.00. In addition, they have a variety of prepared snack foods to choose from.
What meat do you want to cook? If you are having a smaller summer barbeque party with mostly adult guests you can plan on steaks or pork chops. If there will be a lot of children, I recommend planning some burgers and hot dogs as well. If this is a big birthday celebration or a lot of guests are coming, Sam's Club carries a box of hamburger patties that taste so fresh your guests won't know the difference! The box sells for about 17.00 and a box of hotdogs at Sams will cost around 7.00. If you do not have a particular favorite for your barbeque sauce, Sams Club carries a two pack of Famous Dave's barbeque sauce that is delicious! If you live in the Missouri area, I highly recommend trying some Gate's Barbeque Sauce for your summer barbeque. You can't find a better sauce than Gate's but it is only available to a limited area in the grocery store. The Gates website online does offer the sauce for sale, and is worth looking at!
Once you have your menu planned, it is time to send out your invitations. If it is an informal affair this can be done verbally or over the telephone. If you want to be more formal or if it is a celebration such as birthday, you can make some invites on your computer very easily. Search Google Images for some unique Barbeque clip art and open up photo shop or Gimp. You will probably want to make your image size something around 500x500 and use your clip art and text tools to create the invitations. Flatten your layers so that it prints the way you have designed it to look. Then print out your invitation and take it to a local copier to have copies made.
You will probably want to make sure you have a seating arrangement figured out in advance as well. A picnic table or two for guests, if there is no feasible ways to get enough table space consider asking guests to bring a lawn chair or blanket with them. Have extra's ready in case some forget!
Your local retail outlet should have a cheap gingham plastic tablecloth that you can use over the tablecloth. These wipe clean easily and can be stored for usage again and again.
On the day of your event, make sure your food is ready to go and get the grill cleaned and ready. Lather some sunscreen on if the sun is bright that day and head outdoors for fun with your family and friends!
