How to Tie a Double Windsor Knot

Ties can have a lot to say. The type of tie and the knot you use to tie them speaks volumes. If you have an important formal situation that will require the utmost of style in confidence, then you need to learn to tie a Double Windsor Knot. The Double Windsor Knot is the grand daddy of all necktie knots. It is a perfectly symmetrical knot best reserved for extremely formal situations.

Once you learn to tie a Double Windsor Knot, you can add it to your formal suit and look fantastic. The Double Windsor knot is best used with a suit jacket and a bold tie. It is not the best knot for a dress shirt without a jacket, for that you might want to consider a simplier knot such as the Pratt Knott.

To learn to tie a Double Windsor Knot you will need:
A standard medium width necktie
A mirror
This guide complete with photos
5 minutes
A bit of perseverance

Learn How To Tie a Double Windsor Knot:
1. Drape the tie over your shoulders. The tight should be right-side up (you should see the pattern and not the seam). The wide end should cross over the narrow end, and it should extend approximately 12 inches beyond the narrow end. See photo #1
2. Bring the wide end up through the loop between the collar and your tie then lay it back down to the right of the growing knot.
3. Pull the wide end under the knot, bring it around to the front. At this point you want loop the wide end of the tie back down between your collar and the tie. The wide end will be to the right again, and it will be inside out. See photo #2
4. Pull the wide end to the left over the loop have just created. The wide end should be to the left side. See photo #3
5. Bring the wide end back under and up through the loop between your collar and the tie. This time, instead of laying it down, you want to feed it through the loop in the front of the Windsor Knot. See photo #4
6. Gently tighten the knot until it looks professional, but is still comfortable. See image #5.

You are now wearing a Double Windsor Knot and you no doubt have an important function to attend. You can get to work now with a sense of confidence and a stylish flair. Good Luck!
