The Four In Hand Knot
First step, and this goes for all tie instructions, get in front of a mirror! You will be able to focus on what you are doing then just looking down while trying to learn.
Start with the wide end of your necktie and it needs to be about 10-12 inches lower than the shorter end. Cross the wide end over the smaller end. Tuck the wide end underneath the smaller end. Bring the wide end back over the smaller end. Then pull the wide end up and through the hole around your neck. Hold the knot very loosely and bring the widerend down through the front hole. Now, tighten the knot slowly and slide the knot up. There ya go! A perfectly tied tie!
Half Windor Knot
the Half Windsor works best on wider ties but looks great with any dress shirt. As with the Four In Hand Knot start with the wide end about 10-12 lower than the smaller end. Cross the wider end over the smaller end. Bring the wider end up and behind the smaller end, now bring the wider end up. Pull the wide end through the hole and towards the right. Bring the wider end around front over the smaller end from right to left. Bring the wide end up through the hole again. Finally, bring the wider end down through the hole in front. Tighten the knot slowly and bring it up.
Pratt Knot
You will notice that most of the tie instructions always begin the same way. Have the wider end of the tie about 10-12 inches longer than the smaller end of the tie. This is pretty standard for all ways to tie a tie. Then, cross the wide end under the smaller end, and then take the wider end up and over the smaller end. Pool the loop downward and gently tighten. Take the wider end towards the right. Now, pull the wide end up behind the hole. Finally, bring the wider end of the tie through the knot and tighten.
