How to Make Tiny Toms!

Theresa L.
Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family and friends and there is no better way to do that than making tiny toms with the children. Tiny toms is a simple homemade craft that can be used to decorate your house for Thanksgiving. Not only are tiny toms simple to make they are fun as well and this is how you make them.

First you need a few materials and supplies like:

Yellow and red felt
Tacky glue
Googly Eyes
Brown pom-poms
Pine cones
Pipe cleaners
scissors

All of the supplies you can pick up at your local craft store relatively cheap. Once you have all of your supplies handy it is time to begin creating your own tiny toms.

Step 1: Cut out a tiny toms beak using the yellow felt.

Step 2: Cut out tiny toms wattle with the red felt.

Step 3: Create the turkey's head by gluing the beak, wattle, and eyes onto the pom-pom.

Step 4: Glue the pom-pom to the very tip of the pine cone.

Step 5: Set the pine cone aside so the glue can properly dry.

Once the glue is dry move onto step six.

Step 6: Take the pipe cleaner and wrap it around the middle of the pine cone. You will want to start at the top and twist it together on the underside a few times. Than separate the pipe cleaner at the ends and bend the tip into three toes.

Step 7: Wrap 4 pieces of pipe cleaner around the back to create the tail. You need to start from the underside and twist the pipe cleaner together to secure them at the top. At the top look the ends of both together to shape the tail.

Another way to make tiny toms is with egg cartons. All you will need is:

Two cups from the egg carton still attached
Glue
Paint
Construction Paper
Scissors
Stapler

Once you are ready you want to bend the egg carton into half to make an oval shape and paint it brown. Once painted glue or staple the ends together to keep it from pulling apart. Finally use the paper to make tiny toms feet, beak, and feathers. That is all there is to it. You can also use real feathers, eyes, and anything else you wish, like hats, to help decorate it.

Whether your making it with an egg carton or a pine cone both ways are easy to do. I like both ways but find the second is easier for younger children to do.
