How to Use Your My Touch 3G (HTC Magic, G2, Ion) Android as an MP3 Player

The My Touch, Magic, G2 and Ion, which all feature Google's Android, not only offer hundreds of features for use as a cell phone, they can also be used as MP3 players. All will play MP3, M4A, AMR, WMA, MIDI, WAV and OGG Vorbis files. As well, the music navigation is similar to many MP3 players, with music organized by artists, albums, songs and playlists. Another advantage to using your Android phone as your MP3 player is applications such as Pandora that give you instant access to thousands of songs.

How to Use Your My Touch 3G (HTC Magic, G2, Ion) Android as an MP3 Player

Select the "Music" icon from the application drawer.

Connect your Android phone to your computer using the included USB data transfer cable. Alternatively, you can use Bluetooth or WiFi.

Open the "Notification" bar by dragging your thumb down from the top left corner of the screen. Tap "USB connected." Then tap "Mount." The "AutoPlay" window may pop up on your computer, depending on your Windows settings. Otherwise, navigate to "My Computer," where your My Touch phone will be listed as a removable disk. Right-click on the device and rename it "My Touch." Doing so will ensure that anytime you connect your phone to any computer it will be listed as "My Touch."

Double-click on your newly renamed device. Double-click the "Music" folder. If there is not a music folder, create one.

Click "Start Menu," then "Music," unless your music files are stored elsewhere.

Drag the desired audio files to the "Music" folder on your My Touch Android phone. Click "OK" in the window that pops up with a warning that some properties may not be transferred.

Close all music folders and Windows Explorer windows when finished transferring your audio files to your My Touch Android. Re-open "My Computer" and right-click on the device from "My Computer" and select "Eject" or Safely Remove." This will ensure that the phone isn't in use, as it can't be ejected when in use.

Return to your phone and open the "Notification" bar. Tap "Turn off USB storage."

I'd be lucky if I could figure out how to use the "My Touch 3G", let alone be able to be able to put mp3 files on it. lol Great write-up though.
