I am going to show you step by step how to train a dog to sit. The most important part of the dog training process is to remain calm and not to get discouraged during the process. By following the easy steps below, you can have your dog sitting on command in a matter of days.

The first step in training a dog to sit is to associate the word sit with the dog's actual body position. When you see your dog in the sitting positing, say sit in a warm, reassuring voice and offer a small treat immediately. The reward has to to be fast or the dog will loose the association of the treat with the sitting position. Repeat this a few times and again later in the day. Take a minute to congratulate yourself because you are well on your way to learning how to train a dog to sit.

It is important to repeat the above process on a regular basis and be sure to offer plenty of verbal praise along with a treat. Remember, keep it fun and always be reassuring. It is also a good idea to keep the treats small so that the dog is left still wanting more.

After repeating the process for a few days, try the sit command while the dog is standing without the assistance of a treat. If the dog sits on a verbal command, you should immediately offer a reward. If the dog doesn't follow the sit command, try again later in the day with rewards but be certain to keep a positive tone and demeanor with your dog.

Learning how to train a dog to sit is an ongoing process for both the dog and the owner. Remain patient and positive for a more rewarding experience.
