How to Transform a Color Photo into a Black and White Photo Using Photo Brush

Jasmine Starr
Photo Brush is a photo program that allows you to apply effects and touch ups to your photos. This photo has a lot of the photo effects that Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and Fireworks has. But Photo Brush is a lot easier to use. If you do not have this program, I recommend that you get it. In this Photo Brush guide I will show you how to change your color photos to black and white photos. There are a few different ways that you can do this. I will show you all of the ways and you can decide what works best for you.

Open your Photo Brush program and we will get started. The first step is to open the photo that you want to change. Go to the top of your Photo Brush window and click File > Browse. When the window opens locate the photo that you want to use and click the Load button at the bottom of that window. Your photo will open in your window.

Now I will show you the first way to change the photo to black and white. Go to the top of your window and click Adjust > B/W Mixer. The black and white mixer box will pop up. Move the color around the box until you get the black and white image that you want. Then click OK on the box. You can slide the mixer box over and watch your photo transform. That way you can see the photo and see what works for you.

This is the second way to change your color photo into a black and white photo. Go to the top of your window and click Filter > Color > Colorize. When the box comes up, set all three dots in the middle of the lines. Then click Apply on the box. That will turn your color photo into a black and white photo.

The last way to turn your color photo into a black and white photo is to use a brush and do it by hand. This way is a little harder but it gives you more options. You should see a tab at the bottom of your window that says Retouch. If that tab is not open, go to the top of your window and click View > Panes > Retouch. That will open your retouch panel. Click on the B/W icon. Then go over to the Brushes panel and select the type of brush that you want to use. You can experiment with all of them. Just click Edit > Undo to undo it and try another one. Once you have selected a brush, draw all over your photo with the brush. That will turn the photo into a black and white photo. You can play around with the options in the brush panel to get different effects.
