The first step I would suggest is do not be a loner. Make sure that you mingle with your co-workers and allow yourself to be approachable. When you have the reputation of being a loner you can easily be stereotyped as anti-social or hard to talk too. It is best to mingle with co-workers and be a team player. Do not fall into the office trap of gossiping or making negative comments about your co-workers. This can cause tension in the workplace.
In the workplace you can receive great reviews and spearhead key projects and still not get promoted. When you are labeled as difficult or hard to get along with it does not matter how professional you may be, because of negative labels, you can still be labeled as unprofessional. This is why you need to be open to feedback from your supervisor. They should be able to honestly and freely tell you about your progress and development . Your supervisor should also be able to tell you what steps are needed in order to get you to the next level.
Remember your reputation is very important in the workplace and should be treated as such. You can easily built your workplace reputation by publicizing your fresh ideas and your achievements. This can also enhance your career and take your success to the next level. Start attending seminars that would allow you to network and meet new people. This will also allow you to share some of your ideas and also broaden your perspective on ways to bring improvement to your department.
If your company has a volunteer program get involve. You can help build your leadership skills and your reputation while giving back to your community and helping others. This will not only built your reputation on your job but also in your society.
Do not make promises that you can not deliver on, by dropping the ball this will only bring more harm than good. This can really end up hurting your reputation in the workplace. Be responsible and act that way always. Before you start a project make sure that you are aware of the guide and time lines. Always be open about what you can and can not do.
Avoid brown nosing. Giving excessive compliments or sucking up is frowned upon in the workplace especially by your co-workers. This type of behavior can alienate you from them. When you know your worth and how valuable you are in your department or company brown nosing is not necessary.
In transforming your reputation it is important that you stray away from heated discussions in the workplace. Remember the bigger person walks away. By walking away you prove to be the mature adult.
These are just a few tips that will not only help you transform your reputation but also aid you in landing that job promotion
