The first pet travel tip I will discuss is the items to bring along. When traveling with your pet there are some important items to bring along. The most important item is your dog's id tag. Make sure that your pets wear this all the time. It's extremely important if they get lost or stolen. Another important item is a photo of your pet. The next item you should bring is your dog's vaccination records. Make sure your dog has a check-up and keep the exam records with you. If you have more than one pet bring separate carriers for each pet. Make sure to bring your pet's regular everyday food. It would not be good to feed your pet new things that could get them sick. Pets are just like little kids they get bored quickly so bring toys. Pets usually do not sleep well in new places. To solve this problem bring your pet's regular bedding or sleeping sheets. The last but defiantly not least item you should bring is bath items. Your pet may need a bath they can get dirty very easy so be prepared. These are just some of the items you should bring when you travel with a pet.
The next pet travel tip I will discuss is about when you're on a plane. A plane ride can be just as scary for a pet as it is for you. When you book a flight try to schedule it so the temperature doesn't affect your pets. During the winter time its best to schedule the flights for midday. The weather is usually a little warmer during the midday in some areas. During the summer try to schedule flights early morning or late evening. The weather is usually cooler at these times. If you cannot get a one way trip fine one with a longer than normal wait time. This way as you wait you can walk your pet, so you don't have an accident on the plane.
When you are on the plane some airlines will let you keep the pet with you. Your pet will stay in its carrier under your seat at all times. Make sure that your pet has a leash on so if they get out or for when you have to go through security. This does have a fee so find out the cost from your airline company. If your pet has to stay in the cargo area this can be very scary for you and your pet. There are some steps you can do to make the cargo area trip not so hard. First of Let the captain and crew know you have a pet on board. Inside of the carrier put in your pets favorite blanket and toys to help keep them calm. On the outside and inside of the carrier label it so people know there is a pet inside. Some other things are put a photo id on the outside of the carrier of you and your pet with your names. This way if your pet gets lost you and your pet can be identified as soon as possible. Lastly make sure you check with the airline first to find out all the pet flying information. Many airlines have different rules, travel packages and other similar things.
The next pet travel tip I will discuss is about when you're in a car. The first and most important tip is to always have windows up to a minimum and doors locked. Do not keep your pet in the passenger seat if there's an air bag present. If your pet is in the front or back seats keep them in a carrier or strapped. Pets can roam free in a car, but it's safer to keep them secure. The reason to keep them secure is so they don't fly out of a window or an open door. Never leave your pet in a car alone with the windows up for any amount of time. A pet can die from too much heat or cold just like a human can.
The final pet travel tip I will discuss is about the hotel, and family or friends house. First we will discuss the family and friends house. If your family or friend already has a pet then it's probably ok to bring your pet. If they do not then you should be faithful to all there rules and restrictions for having a pet in their house. You should always control your pet in every way possible so that your friend or family does not get upset. If your pet is house trained that will be a great plus for you and the people you are staying with. Always have your pet's food and water ready so that if they get hungry they won't beg for food or steal food. Never let your pet on the furniture they can scratch or dirty the furniture. Make sure you keep your pets happy by playing with them when you can. If at night your pet barks or when you're gone you will have to come up with a way to control the barking. At night your pets will have to sleep with you so they will not bark and keep everyone awake. When you're gone maybe you can get a pet sitter or you will have to take your pet with you to prevent barking. A barking pet can be a real headache for people who are not used to it. You should always keep your pets in an enclosed area or room so that they do not break things or hurt little children. Make sure your pets stay clean and do not smell. Pets will pea when there nervous so always check up and clean if they make any mistakes.
For the hotel most of these rules apply in the same way. Just as with a family or friend keep your pet secure. You don't want your pet to bite someone or for your pet to break something. For the hotel choose a low floor so there are not too much people. This will make it easier to walk your pet without everyone being in the way. Keep the furniture covered and clean it right away if your pets make a mess. In a hotel never take your pet to some areas like the pool, cafeteria, and so on. These are just some helpful hotel and family or friend's household tips for your pets. Just as with the airplane before entering a hotel call and find out their pet policy.
Pets are family to and should be able to enjoy a family vacation. Pets can be a lot of work but if you follow these helpful tips it should be easier. Before you travel check with the airlines and hotels about their pet policies and have a great vacation.
