How to Travel Safe Abroad

It's a beautiful world and you must go see it. But, before you travel abroad, keep these tips in mind to travel safe abroad.

First, makes two copies each of all your documents like passport, tickets, travel insurance papers etc. It may seem like an effort but it's worth all the work. Leave one set of these documents with a friend or relative who can be contacted easily once you are abroad. You should keep the other set of copies in your baggage. Your originals you must carry on your person. Use a sling person that can be strung across your shoulder beneath your clothes or, use the special document pouches you can tie to your belt securely below your shirt. As an added precaution, before you leave, upload copies of your passport and other document as a draft item in your personal email. You can access the internet anywhere and take prints in case of an emergency. Also save on email any important telephone numbers that you may be requiring. A phone diary must be carried too. Do not depend on your mobile for the phone numbers.

Before you leave, make arrangements for travel insurance and medical insurance. Most of the time your travel agent will help you with these. You can also buy insurance online for the period of travel. Your luggage will also be tagged electronically if you choose an insurance option.

At an international airport, whenever your passport is returned to you after it has been stamped at a desk or window, cross-check that all pages are intact. Lately, there have been cases of fraud where pages have been torn by an immigration officer or, a wrong stamp or entry has been made carelessly. If you stuff your documents back in your bag in a rush, you may get into trouble later when you 'discover' the error or fraud.

Carry less paper currency with you than internationally electronic cards. Be sure you know the helpline numbers for these Visa and Mastercards. Of course, no one can resist making new friends but, exercise discretion in talking to strangers or revealing vital information about you too easily. Also, do not eat or drink at places that do not seem to by hygienic. Whether it's a guided tour you are taking or an individual business trip, try and carry an international calling card that you can use from a booth anywhere. Also, locate beforehand the address of your country's embassy in the city you will be holidaying. Being able to access help easily is vital while travelling.

Your demeanor and dress should be carefully chosen when holidaying abroad. Try and dress as close to natives as possibly. When in a market or public place avoid attracting attention by your conversation in a different language or with your different dress. For example, Americans women travelling to the Middle East should not wear skirts. Other than for safety reasons, you must behave and dress so as to respect the religion and culture of the place you are visiting. Finally, stay safe and holiday with a free mind.
