How to Treat Bad Breath

Almost everyone will admit to having bad breath in the morning. This offensive odor is caused by many different things. Morning is not the only time you can experience bad breath though. Throughout the day you may be suffering from bad breath and not even know it. Below are some tips on how to rid yourself of this embarrassing ailment.

Oral Hygiene: By keeping your mouth, gums, and teeth cleaned you can greatly reduce your chances of experiencing bad breath. Brushing your teeth is a common way to clean your mouth. Every time you eat, small food particles get stuck in your teeth and create an ideal home for bad breath causing bacteria. You should brush your teeth as many times a day as you need, but no less then twice a day. When brushing do not forget to brush your tongue and gums along with the rest of your mouth. Take special care when brushing your gums so as to not cause damage to them.

Tooth Pick: If you do not have access to your toothbrush but need to clean your teeth a toothpick is an ideal way to accomplish that. A toothpick is a small pointed sliver of wood used to pick small food particles out of the gaps in your teeth. Use the toothpick to clean out any pieces of food wedged between your teeth like meat or corn. Be sure to pay attention and exercise caution when using a toothpick, so that you do not damage your gums by stabbing them with the sharp instrument.

Gargling: Gargling with warm water of mouth wash is also an effective way to rid yourself of bad breath. Most mouth wash comes in minty flavors to add a pleasant sent to your mouth. If you do not have mouth wash with you, you can always use just plain warm water. Both will help you get the extra little food particles hiding in your mouth out, and help prevent bad breath. You can usually buy mouth wash in a travel size, which can be handy if you are at a restaurant.

Water: Drinking water can help reduce your chances of getting bad breath. In a warm, only slightly moist environment, bacteria seems to thrive. If you drink water you are making your mouth too moist and cold for bacteria to grow. The water can also help you wash the small food particles away, so they never even have the chance to let the bacteria grow.

Mints: By chewing mints, or minty chewing gum, you can help cover the smell of bad breath until you have the chance to brush your teeth. You can usually buy cheap breath mints and keep them in handy places like your purse, diaper bag, or car because of how small and convenient they are. The mint will not last forever though, and eventually your teeth will need to be cleaned.

Bad breath is a common thing, and plagues everyone. Not one person is immune to bad breath. Some people may seem less prone, or more prone to having bad breath, but that usually is the result of their personal oral hygiene. If you do not want to be known as the person with bad breath, your best bet is to brush your teeth often, use mouth wash after every meal, and be sure to carry some mints with you in case of an emergency. If you follow those tips, you are sure to be rid of bad breath.
