How to Treat the Common Cold

Or How to Treat the Creeping Crud

Bridget Ilene Delaney
Nobody has found a cure for the common cold. The only way to deal with it is to treat the symptoms. The cold (or creeping crud) that is going around in 2011 is very bad. However, it can be overcome just like any other colds.

This cold is very bad and may last for up to two weeks, but in general, it lasts about one week.

You will want to have the following items handy:

Aspirin, Tylenol, or Advil (or generic brand pain reliever)
Carbonated Soda (if you drink it) or warm salt water to gargle
Garlic Oil Pills
NyQuil/DayQuil (or generic brand)
Kleenex (or generic brand facial tissue)
Calcium
Vitamin C
Cough drops with menthol and eucalyptus

This cold tends to increase symptoms once is it caught.

  1. A slight feeling of illness may occur, or it may come on suddenly.
  2. Swollen lymph nodes in the throat making it be difficult to eat.
  3. No appetite/never hungry.
  4. Loss of voice.
  5. Sneezing and coughing.
  6. Eyes producing "sleep" or "crusting over" constantly.
  7. Eyes clear.
  8. Swelling goes down in lymph nodes.
  9. Appetite returns.
  10. Coughing and Sneezing continues.
  11. Voice returns.
  12. Health returns.
In order to treat this, follow these steps:

If it is difficult to swallow anything, use a cold carbonated soft drink. This will help swallowing as it will soothe the lymph nodes. Every morning take a dose of pain reliever, a dose of garlic oil pills, a dose of calcium, and a dose of vitamin C.

If the lymph nodes are still sore, bit open the cough drop and suck on it. This will allow the medicine to help sooth the lymph nodes.

Make sure to eat something small to give the body some nutrition. If lymph nodes are sore, use a cold, carbonated drink and take a dose of pain reliever before eating. Drink the cold, carbonated drink while eating.

At night, take a dose of NyQuil, a dose of aspirin, and a dose of garlic pills.

Use the Kleenex as necessary to cough into them, wipe the nose, or wipe the eyes.

If you do not drink carbonated drinks, try gargling with warm salt water.
